Designing a shared boy, girl toddler room

We have just under four weeks to get everything ready to welcome Little Man and Little Lady home! I’ve been on business in London all week, so that means we’re down to three weeks. If we want to have it ready by the time they spend the night with us, we’re down to just two weeks. I’ve been good on this trip and spent my days focused on work, but my nights have been wide awake figuring out colors.

Now I am ready to reveal and would love opinions and ideas!

I don’t want matchy matchy or a theme so much. I want color and fun and happy. I do want it to all come together in harmony. After spending way too much time searching for coordinating quilts, I’ve decided to seek out a talented friend on Etsy to make us something and she has been an absolute angel to help pick everything out.

The colors will be yellow, teal and grey with accents of pink on her side and accents of navy on his side.

The quilt on their beds will have dots, chevrons, swirls and elephants. They will also get an embroidered pillowcase with their names on it.

We ordered them twin beds as they are already sleeping in big kid beds at the foster home. David moved the exercise equipment out of their room this week and set the beds up. We are doing them in an L-shape in the corner.

We will also create a toy bench by turning over an Ikea expedit shelf on its side. I will make a bench cushion in grey chevron. The baskets will be teal and ready for their toys.

Maybe a cute little table for playing. Also, a place for reading will be important. I really like the idea of using Ikea spice racks as book shelves hung low.

What do you think? Do these colors work well together? What else would make this room look good?
